Heartbeat is operated by That's the Spot Productions LLC, which does business as Heartbeat Safety. “We” and “us” in this document mean that company. We build and run Heartbeat ourselves, and every message it sends is sent by us, about our own users — never on behalf of another business.
The short version
This website does not use cookies. It does not store anything in your browser, and it does not follow you from page to page or from one visit to the next.
There is no cookie banner here because there is nothing to agree to. A box asking permission for something that does not happen is not consent, and we would rather the word still meant something on the days we do ask for it.
What this site does not do
- No analytics. We do not count you, and we do not know you were here.
- No advertising or marketing trackers, because there is no advertising.
- No tag manager, no embedded video, no social buttons, no chat widget.
- Nothing kept in your browser’s storage — no cookies, no local storage.
- No fingerprinting, and no profile built from your device or connection.
The one thing that leaves your browser
The typefaces. Your browser fetches them from Google Fonts, so Google’s server sees your IP address and which font file you asked for — the same as any server does when your browser asks it for a file. It sets no cookie, and nothing comes back to us. We are moving to serving the fonts ourselves, and when we do, this site will make no third-party requests at all.
If you followed a link we sent you
Some links we send have a code in them — the one asking whether you can check on somebody’s animals, or the one holding their care plan. Opening it tells our server that the link was opened, and we keep that as part of the record of what happened that day. That is the point of the link rather than a side effect of it, it sits on our side, and nothing is stored on your device. Those links stop working when the situation they are about is settled.
The app is a separate thing
The Heartbeat app keeps you signed in on your own phone so you are not typing a code every morning. That is stored on your device by the app, not by this website, and it is not a cookie. What the app holds and why is in the Privacy Policy.
What would change this
One thing, and it is worth naming before it exists: signing in on the web. We do not offer it today, and the reason to add it is a good one — your phone is the key to your account, and phones get lost, broken and stolen at exactly the moments this service matters. A website that can sign you in has to remember you from one page to the next, which means something stored in your browser.
Until then, if you have lost your phone or it has broken, write to support@heartbeat.pet and we will sort it out with you.
If we add it, we will say so here first, and it will be the narrow kind: a sign-in that lasts your session, set only after you sign in, used for nothing but keeping you signed in. That is the one sort that does not need asking about, because refusing it and refusing to sign in are the same thing. Anything beyond it — anything for measurement, or for anybody other than us — we would ask you about properly, and you would be able to say no and still use the site.
